HOW TO READ THE SIDEWALL OF A TIRE – SPONSORED BY MITAS

480/80R50 – Tire Size

🔴 480 = Section Width (width of tire). In example 480 = 480 millimeters, or ~19 inches wide.
🔴 80 = Aspect Ratio (series). Specifies sidewall height, expressed in a percentage. In example, the sidewall height is 80% of the width of the tire.
🔴 R = Radial Tire Construction. This depicts how the body plies are placed in the casing, running radially from bead to bead.
🔴 50 = Rim Diameter. In example Rim Diameter is 50 inches.
🔴 R-1W = Tread Depth & Designation. In example R-1W is Bar Tread (chevron), with 15-20% deeper tread depth than R-1.
